Poetry and Art by Caroline Street
The withdrawn and unassuming
Make little attempt at communicating.
Eyes are devoid of feeling;
It appears as if there's nothing there.
The fires rage within
Not daring to share.
Reticence, an emotional flaw?
They feel they don't belong;
They may just say something wrong,
So rather let the character withdraw.
It is easier to hide than to be seen -
They constantly push away at being:
Conceal all feeling,
Unable to relate,
Those like this, have need of healing.
Ego maniacs with their delusions
Of greatness, are bold, and brazen.
Their smiles drip golden;
Lacking anything close to wisdom.
Honeyed words laden to impress;
Their lies, like flies, pollute the air,
Even a forward, unwelcome caress,
To capture an audience unaware.
Smug, false, vainglorious and cruel.
They create friction on every scale,
It is their intention to rule.
Their concerns don't extend beyond themselves;
Self-satisfaction is what it's all about.
Generosity - what's that?
When will their friends learn they're rats?
When their true identity is exposed,
They'll just become distantly remembered fools.
Those suffering the selfish rot,
Are the friendship blot;
Mean and self-serving to the core.
Spending a cent
Or a little quality time
Is done with the intent
That the recipient even the score.
Drowning in themselves,
They can talk for hours and hours:
"I", "me","my", "mine"; Give them a test,
They cannot feign even minimal interest,
And conversation for the listener sours.
The anticipated friendship is no more;
The self-absorbed has become a bore!
In the dark recesses of the abuser's mind,
The deceiver is king,
Anything to 'justify', anything;
Massive untruths and delusional thoughts;
Into this spider's web, the trusting is caught.
In this mephistophelian world,
Release is the victim's thought;
Run, run, run and hide -
Escape into the light!
Detach from these diabolical 'friends',
They will reach their destructive end,
And in their fury, their finale.♥
