Poetry and art by Caroline Street
A poem by Caroline Street
Who are these overpaid fat cats
Sitting in their once maintained counsels -
Apathetic from lack of vision and principled work,
Snoring on their grubby tables.
Friends of corrupt friends in high places;
Unqualified to perform their tasks -
Their bank accounts inflated
With the gains of their trespass.
Taxpayer’s money squandered on sleek cars,
Expensive properties, lavish events,
And best vacations money can buy.
Their bedizened woman and wives,
Flashing gold and lipstick smiles.
The neglected county they ‘serve’?
Systematically degraded in every sphere -
If basic infrastructure is not maintained,
Where does that leave policing, education,
The disadvantaged and health care?
In-fighting is rife within the ruling ranks -
Power grabbing is the order of the day.
Lies upon lies – criminal acts to cover their tracks,
But each of these villains are too blame.
Everything they touch has turned to rot -
They are accountable - they believe not!
A once thriving country has been sacrificed,
On the altar of lies, greed and compromise.
